Three high senior al-Shabaab fighters were arrested by firing squad on Wednesday morning, March 15, after it became evident that they are responsible for series deadly terrorist attacks in Somalia.
The trio, who are all members of the Islamist based group, allegedly sponsored series of attacks by pretending to be a military doctor, a military commander and a retired soldier.
They were placed in court today morning in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
State media, the Somalia News, identified the three as; Mohammed Abdi Noor Jiro, who murdered a doctor before reaching the zones targeted for the attack posed as Fanah, Sharif Mohammed Barkadal Ayanle Jigo, and Mohammed Abdul Abko Omar Biamalo, who posedAs a commander and former soldier.
The Somali News Agency said scores were murdered in the bombing.
"Three senior al- Shabaab officials were executed by a military court on Wednesday morning, Mohammed Abdi Noor Jiro (Dr. Fanah), Sharif Mohammed Barksdale Ayanle Jigo, and Mohammed Abdul Abkav Omar Biamalo. They were convicted of carrying out the bombings and killings." The statement read in part.
The will serve life sentence according to reports.
This is the second case being handled by firing squad in a week.
On Monday, March 13, two police officers were shot dead by firing squads.
News from Somalia said that the two policemen were found guilty of shooting a fellow and a civilian.
An officer in the capital Mogadishu was jailed for stealing and then strangling a civilian to death, while his colleague was convicted of murdering a colleague.
