A 49 year old Man in Kisii County commits suicide over allegations on land dispute photo /Web
A 49 year old man is alleged to have committed suicide by drowning himself into a 40 feet well over land dispute in Nyakembene location, Gucha South in Kisii County.
According to the police report Charles Odhiambo deceased had differences on land issues yesterday, he went to bed so disturbed and at around midnight he got out of bed went drowned himself in a well.
His wife Gladys Kwamboka woke up and found him missing upon searching, he found his body submerged in a well which was open and raised an alarm.
According to the Kwamboka , his husband had tried to commit suicide last week over the same dispute but he was rescued by villagers.
The villagers were able to retrieve the the body.
Kisii County Commander Francis Kooli confirmed the incident and said that they have launched investigation .
County commander urged the public to solve family wrangles amicably.
According to the police statistics Kisii County has registered 18 cases of suicidal incidences in the past two months , men records high percentage with 17 cases while women 1 case.
David Omandi physiologist alluded that such cases might be contributed by land issues, , depression, poverty, love wrangles, divorce and alcohol and drug substance.
Mr Omandi said that men were more prone to bouts of depression that lead to suicide due to stereotypes about what “it means to be a man”.
“Men are generally taking their lives in Kenya because of the warped understanding of what it is to be a man. An African man guards up his feelings because he fears the repercussions in a society that has taught men that they do not cry, that they are not supposed to show their emotions or be vulnerable.
The police officers visited the scene and took the body of the deceased to Tabaka mission Hospital awaiting for autopsy.
