Pharmacy and Poisons Board is a body that regulates the Practice of Pharmacy, Manufacture and Trade in Drugs and Poisons.Today,the Board in conjunction with the Kenya Police Service shuts down 86 illegal chemists, clinics,herbal medicine stores qnd cosmetic shops in the Central region.
The ongoing operations targeting illegal and unregistered pharmacy outlets was carried out in Embu,Meru,Tharaka Nithi and Isiolo counties that saw a number of 46 people arrested and One Hundred and Twenty (120) of medicine were also seized in the crackdown.
“Their offences include running unregistered outlets, and some of them are unqualified to run pharmacies. We did not find issues related to wrong medication,” Pharmacy and Poisons Board senior inspector Julius Kaluai said.
He also said that those who have been arrested will be arraigned in Court and charged with carrying out illegal premises contrary to the law and the medicine will be disposed of in bad condition or given to public hospitals if in good condition.
