According to an eyewitness identified as Lucy Muthoni said that she heard a loud bang that prompted her to rush outside. It then that she saw the probox which was at a lightening speed hit an electricity post before the driver was thrown out of the car through the windscreen rolling three hundred meters away and died on the spot.
“The overspeeding is not good and my fellow women and children are the most affected when men who are mostly breadwinners die. Kindly let them reduce the speed," Muthoni said.
Confirming the incident, Mbeere south Sub-county police commander Mr. Gregory said that they could crack the whip on all overspeeding vehicles no matter how perishable goods they are transporting are.
Vehicles carrying Muguka and Miraa products from both Meru and Embu countries are known to Overspeed due to the nature of the product they transport.
Mostly, the pick-up, lorry, and probox drivers have a time limit in which h they are supposed to make sure the products have reached Nairobi especially Eastleigh town or At Wilson Airport so that they can be transported within or outside the country.
Miraa pick-ups are known to cause many accidents in Meru country with some families left crying for compensation of some of their loved ones who have been left crippled or some deceased due to accidents caused by the overspeeding vehicles.
