One of the 11 prisoners under escort of six cops, assaulted and shot at officer on Tuesday morning within Hamisi courts, Vihiga County.
Edwin Ndege alias Odhis, 26, together with Benjamin Kidiahi were secured together.
Edwin was nabbed after he assaulted an officer during the melee. Edwin was to respond to criminal charges before Hamisi law courts.
The suspect is said to have slipped his wrist through the handcuff and released himself and attempted to flee before the police cornered him.
Police constable Joseph Otido sprayed a fierce shot which the suspect missed and before escaping into the nearby Hamisi thicket. Determined to catch up with him, Joseph fired two shots which killed the suspect on the spot.
The scene was toured by Hamisi Police Sub- county police boss, SCCIO Hamisi together with Deputy Ocs serem. Scene documented by scene of crime detective attachd to Vihiga County headquarters before the lifeless body was transferred to Vihiga County Referral Hospital, Mbale pending autopsy.
