Activist Boniface Mwangi Wins Twitter Influencer of the Year Award But Gives it to Someone Else

Boniface Mwangi is a Kenyan photojournalist and activist who is admired by many people for blodly speaking about things affecting him and other Kenyans no matter how controversial they may seem. He doesn't fear being arrested or bitten by the police for openly saying sensitive issues.

He has been roughed up by police officers in several occasions for facilitating demonstration but that never deters him from doing it again. He also uses his social media platforms especially Twitter to talk about matters and expose wrong doers.

He posted photos on his Instagram page revealing how happy he was to win the Twitter Influencer of the Year Award. In the photos, he was in an event with popular media personalities such as Betty Kyallo, Sara Hassan and Esther Kazungu.

However, out of kindness he decided not to carry the award home but give it to Esther Kazungu who addresses political issues through satire. It was a sign of encouraging her to continue with what she is doing.

"Thank you for the Twitter Influencer of the Year Award. Keep on speaking the truth to power, we can't afford to give up on our country. Our generation shall liberate our country by raising voices online and offline. I gave my Twitter Influencer Award to Esther Kazungu who uses satire to address socio-political issues. As we laugh at her political satire, may we become active citizens who will always speak up when we see injustices. Now go register to vote wisely in 2022," read Boniface's caption to the photos.
