A widow in Ndia Kirinyaga county is in tears after her newly built house burnt mysteriously.
The widow had built the house using proceeds from her chama and money from sale of vegetables.
She had planned a Thanksgiving ceremony on Saturday and welcomed all neighbours, family members and friends but sadly, on Friday night, unknown people torched down her house.
They also burnt all the tents and plastic chairs that were to be used by guests during the scheduled celebrations.
The house was not yet connected to electricity, meaning that an electric fault didn't cause the fire. Police are still investigating the cause of the fire and hope to catch up with any culprits.
Neighbours suspect that people jealous of the widow's milestone burnt down the house before the celebrations.
The widow is now set to renovate the 6 roomed house since the roofing was completely destroyed by the fire.
