Agnes Tirop, former athlete and 5000m champion, was laid to rest at her parent's home in Mosoriot, Nandi County on Saturday, October 23. New details have now emerged on how her husband threatened to end her life.
Speaking to local media, Tirop's friend revealed that the fallen athlete had complained to them about the mistreatment she was going through at the hands of her estranged husband and trainer, Ibrahim Rotich.
The athlete also showed them a video where Rotich is heard warning his now-deceased spouse that he will break her limbs and even kill her.
“There are things that Agnes showed me. She had been told that her legs would be broken or she would be killed,” said Peris Jechirchir, an athlete and friend to Tirop.
Jepchirchir further revealed that they reported the matter to a representative but no action was taken by Athletics Kenya. She added that the death of Tirop could have been avoided if actions would have been taken earlier.
