One suspected police impostersonator was on Thursday morning arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers attached to Mombasa town police station for extorting Kshs50 from motorists, Mombasa County.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations said the detectives were acting on a tip-off from four motorists around the area.
The hawk-eyed detectives the suspect couldn't pronounce his service number leading to his arrest.
During the scuffle, the officers recovered a toy pistol the officers said is being used to assault unsuspecting members of the public. Also recovered during the arrest was police uniform and boots.
Mombasa town police station commanding officer said that the suspect is believed to be part of a group that lure the motorists and innocent members of the public only to rob them their valuables.
He also stated that cases of imposters has been on the rise for sometime as the latest incident comes barely few days when two fake police officers were caught conducting patrols within the town.
The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Kenley, is currently being detained at Mombasa town police station pending his arraignment in court.
