In Pictures: Emotions High as Thousands of Residents Storm Eldoret Streets to Mourn Star Agnes Tirop

On Friday October 22nd, thousands of Uasin Gishu residents joined hundreds of athletes and sport coaches in Eldoret Town to mourn fallen Kenyan Star Agnes Tirop.

The thousands of people brought the town to a standstill during a procession while holding a big banner with 'End Gender Based Violence' phrase and 'Forever in Our Hearts' with Tirop's two images emblazoned on each side of the banner.

The World Cross Country champion was found dead in her home, Iten Elgeyo Marakwet County last week, and will be laid to rest on Saturday October 23rd at her parents residence in Kapnyamisa Village Mosoriot, Nandi County the same day she was expected to celebrate her 26th birthday.

Police have already arrested and arraigned in court Tirop's husband Ibrahim Rotich who is the prime suspect of the death of the 2-time World champion medalist.

Mourners converged at the Eldoret Hospital Mortuary for a brief prayer session and viewing of the body, and later took part in the procession that is reported to have lasted for two hours.

Several top world champions were part of the procession including Julius Yengo, Milcah Chemos, Eunice Sum, Mary Keitany and Janeth Jepkosgei.

Others were; Gladys Cherono, Lawrence Cherono, Caroline Chepkwony, Eliud Kipchonge and Jonathan Korir.

Asbel Kiprop, Alfred Kirwa and Joan Chelimo among others were at the mortuary and during the procession.
