Pumwani Maternity Hospital is back on the news for the wrong reason again. Today blogger Robert Alai has exposed an alleged cartel that is run by the doctors who work at the hospital. The exposé will bring focus to the hospital again which had enjoyed relative relief from scrutiny after being upgraded by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
According to Alai, an anonymous whistleblower has texted him on the rot that is happening at the facility. It is alluded that the doctors own a pharmacy by the name Lifecare Diagnostic Limited which is adjacent to the maternity hospital. Everytime an expectant mother visits the hospital, she is refered to the pharmacy for scanning.
The whistleblower wanted to know why someone would be refered for scanning while the hospital itself has been equipped with modern machines using taxpayers money. Instead of getting the service for free, you are forced to incur extra cost at the pharmacy. What is saddening is that even mothers whose water has broke are also refered to the facility for scanning endangering their lives and that of the baby.
