Road Accident

Details Emerge as Brother of Student Killed Outside University’s Main Gate Speaks

More details have been revealed on what happened the day a University Student was killed in the afternoon while he was rushing to get to his class.

The brother of Dennis Mukalavi, the Machakos University student who was killed on June 3 has come out to speak of what happened when his brother was rushed to the hospital.

Mukalavi’s brother, Daniel Yator, said his brother was rushed to Machakos Level Five Hospital in critical condition after a speeding ambulance hit Mukalavi outside the University’s main gate while he was on a Zebra crossing with his motorbike.

Yator told the Standard that after arriving at the hospital, his brother, a Bachelor of Education (Science) student was put on life support but succumbed to his injuries while waiting for blood transfusion because the hospital was not equipped with blood.

Yator said his 26-year-old brother could probably be alive today if the hospital had blood readily available.

“The management of Machakos Level Five Hospital asked Mukalavi’s collegemates to donate blood. It was during the search for matching blood that my brother died,” said Yator.

According to reports, the ambulance driver fled the scene after the accident and Yator said the Machakos County Government has not reached out to him or his family or offered any assistance in funeral arrangements.

“My brother was killed by a driver employed by the county government, driving a vehicle belonging to the county government. No Machakos County Government senior staff member has communicated with my family,” he added.
