Kenyans are mourning the deaths of Mwingi Catholic church choir congregants who have died in the Enziu River tragedy in Kitui County earlier today. Over the years, this spot has always been termed as deadly more so when heavy downpour is witnessed in the country.
A good example is three years ago whereby three passengers died in the same spot. The three were traveling with a heavy loaded lorry to the nearby County. However after reaching this spot, they realized that the banks of Enziu River had burst and they were left with only three options; to wait for the water to cool, to go back and use another route or to risk and see whether they will pass.
The driver opted for the last option. However, no sooner had he reached the middle of this road than his vehicle overturned before it fully plunged into the river. The area residents tried to help the three but their efforts were deemed because of the force of the water. It took Red Cross officials a day to recover their bodies
