Worshippers at Boigesa SDA Church in Bobasi Constituency, Kisii County were on Saturday treated to an empty church after thieves broke into the facility and made away with equipment.

According to Elder Tom Mosoba, the robbers cooked and ate bananas before walking out with a bag of maize, utensils, guitar, speakers, and a microphone.

As reported by K24, the criminals pushed one of them through a space on the church’s roof while they also broke through the main door to access the room.

Unfortunately for the burglars, one of them was arrested and held at the Itumbe Police Station.

According to the area chief, Henry Mirera, the suspect was identified as a resident of Kenyanya sub-county.

The suspect was nabbed at the scene and has been handed over to criminal investigation officers to probe him. Churches have no guards. So the elders would be ferrying the equipment during church service days and return them to their homes, Mirera said.

Theft of church equipment has been rampant in Kisii with religious leaders decrying the insecurity issues in the region.

Just recently, Nyagiki Pentecostal Assemblies of God ( PAG) pastor, Geoffrey Gwaro came out gun blazing after the church was robbed twice in a month and lost communication equipment and chairs in the process.

This followed an incident in which security officers arrested ten suspects from Otamba sub-location, Nyaribari Chache constituency in Kisii county in connection with the torching of five churches- St Monica Otamba Catholic, Nyangeni SDA, Worldwide Gospel church, Pentecostal church, and Legio Maria.
