Theft Of Drugs Increases As Shs.1 Billion Government Drugs Are Recovered Hidden At A Private Clinic

As some hospitals continues receiving shortage of drugs, it is said that some people have hidden the drugs to take the advantage of government supplied properties. The drugs are then ending up in private clinics where they are later sold to citizens at a higher costs.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman, Mr. Luke Owoyesigyire, drugs estimated to be worthy shs.1 billion were today recovered hidden at a certain private clinic in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso district. The raid has happened a day after the area residents reported that they saw a truck offloading many boxes of drugs in the clinic on Thursday.

Mr. Waluke together with the police and other officials visited the clinic and found drugs on a tipper truck marked National Medical Stores, USAID and Government of Uganda. The nurse who was available at that time was arrested and the truck impounded as investigations continue to arrest all those involved in the saga.
