Prepare for Heavy Rains in the Next 5 Days if You Live in The Following Counties

The month of August is coming to an end as the Kenya Meteorological Department has been providing accessible meteorological and climatological information throughout the month. The weather updates from the meteorological department has provided sustainable development helping the residents of some areas to exploit natural resources with the changing weather patterns. The weather forecasting updates from the meteorological department has also helped in the protection of property, saving lives and also in the protection of the environment.

The timely early warnings on the expected weather and climatological changes has enabled Kenyans to plan adequately for the adverse effects that are likely to be associated with bad weather. The Kenya Meteorological Department has enhanced the infusion of scientific knowledge to Kenyans through the creation of an efficient telecommunication system for rapid collection and dissemination of meteorological information.

The Kenya Meteorological Department working in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has provided weather forecasting updates for the next 5 days whose validity period ranges from 31st August to 4th September 2021.

According to the forecast, rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country within the forecast period. The forecast indicates that rainfall is expected over Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the South and Central Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County.

1.The Lake Victoria Basin, The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley ;[Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia Counties],

The above areas are likely to experience morning rains during the forecast period. The residents of the above areas should also be prepared for afternoon showers and thunderstorms with a chance of night showers also expected. The maximum temperatures are likely to be around 30°C while the minimum temperatures are likely to be 7°C.

2.Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County;[ Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Kiambu, Embu, Meru, Tharaka and Nairobi Counties],

The residents of these areas should be set for cold and cloudy conditions with a chance of light rains during the forecast period. The mornings are likely to experience cloudy conditions which are likely to break into sunny intervals. Afternoon showers are also expected with a chance of night showers over a few areas during the forecast period. Maximum temperatures are likely to be at 28°C while the minimum temperatures are likely to be at 6°C.

3.South Eastern Lowlands and the Coastal Strip; [ Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties],

These areas are likely to experience sunny intervals in the morning. Sunny intervals are also expected in the afternoons and with a chance of showers over a few areas. The nights are likely to be partly cloudy with a chance of showers over some areas during the forecast period.

The Kenya Meteorological Department is working hard to enhance operational knowledge and techniques in order to improve the understanding of weather and climatic applications among the people.

The expected heavy rains are likely to have an effect in the disruption of transportation and business activities.
