Govt Gives Ultimatum to Factory After Worker with Swollen Hands Surfaced Online

After a lady’s swollen hands surfaced online, Kilifi County government has given a stern warning to the company. Kilifi County want all the workers in the factory to be provided with protective gears to help in protecting the workers. It has said that it will not allow its residents to be exposed to bad practises. 

The swollen fingers of woman working in cashew nut factory have caused a stir online with many Kenyans saying the factory must be stopped. The company has also been asked by Gideon Mung’aro’s government to make sure that they get a new license for 2023.

It has emerged that the company is not using the policies that govern food processing. All food processing factories need to have policies that are in line with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP). The factory has also been violating Food, Drugs and Chemical Substance Act. 

The company that deals with the production of cashew nut oil risks being closed. It has emerged that employees of the company are exposed to higher degrees of heat with no protective gear endangering their lives.

COTU boss Francis Atwoli has already called on the government to ensure that the company is investigated so that the lives of its workers are not put in danger.
