Burried Alive: Atleast Five Dead as Ikolomani Gold Mines Collapse

Five people have been cornfimed dead after a gold mine in Bushiangala, ikolomani Subcounty in Kakamega collapsed and burried them alive today evening.

Eight other miners who narrowly escaped the horrific accident have been badly Injured and currently undergoing treatment at Kakamega county General hospital.

The collapse was as a result of heavy rains that have pounding the area in the past few weeks.

Speaking to KTN news, the area chief Mr. Zaccheus said that victims of the collapse were youth struggling to put food on the table.

According to Business daily, Gold in Bushiangala was discoverd earlier this year by an exploring company Shanta Gold Limited giving hope to residents . Shanta Limited had drilled mines of 402 metres in Bushiangala and another mine at Sulu with over 1000M.

Former Kakamega countu Senator and Ikolomani member of parliament Boni Khalwale has sent heatfelt condolences to family and friends of the departed economy builders. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
