According to the CCTV footage, detectives suspect that the leader of the gang is a dismissed Mombasa based General Service Unit officer with some rogue officers. The unidentified officer is said to hail from Matuu hence had better chances of planning the attack since he is a resident. He also got involved in some robberies in the area.
A multi agency team was formed to pursue them as they are believed to have come from the capital city. A boda boda rider is being detained as he aided the suspects in fleeing. He carried one of them nine kilometers from scene of crime upto Kimangu" market.
