Weed Peddler Dramatic U-Turn in Court Leaves the Police Tongue Tied

A self-confessed cannabis smoker who was reportedly caught selling 27 rolls of bhang along Haile Selassie Avenue has refuted the accusation of drug trafficking, saying that the weed was for his personal use. In breach of the Drug and Psychotropic Drugs Regulation Act of 1994, hawker Samuel Nduati Kamau was charged in Makadara law courts with dealing in bhang that was not properly treated medically. He was captured selling bhang worth Sh1,350 on March 5, according to the charges.

Kamau was also charged with being in possession of a narcotic substance, and he confessed to possessing 27 rolls to smoke before principal magistrate Jackie Kibosia. He begged for mercy in court, claiming that he does not sell bhang but only consumes it. He was released on Sh50,000 cash bail pending the case's hearing on May 19. This comes after Sh81 million marijuana plantation was set ablaze in Naivasha in Februart 2021, after court orderered for it to be destroyed. Nearly 3,000 marijuana stems were set ablaze at the Naivasha dumpsite by police in Naivasha.
