The main objective of The Kenya Power Company is supplying and distribution of electricity to all parts of the country. Being the only player in the sector, its always the first to blame whenever the country experiences power blackouts. This power cuts have recently brought the company to sharp criticism from Kenyans thanks to its delay in the prepay token payment system where users had to wait for days to have their token processed. The company's official prepay number 88880 was experiencing delays which left business and house holds stranded across the country due to lack of electricity supply.
However, the company has finally bow to public pressure by issuing an alternative top up number to ease in the token transactions over its traditional payment platform through its website. Users are urged to use mobile money transfer to purchase the token using paybill number 501200 ( vendit ) and enter the meter's number as the Account number if they experience delays through its payment system.
