Prepare For Heavy Rains in The Next Five Days if You Live in These Areas

The Kenya Meteorological Department has a mandate to provide timely and accessible meteorological information to the entire public for early warning and preparation of weather changes. The timely information helps in avoidance of weather hazards like floods, utilisation of natural resources and saving of lives among other uses.

The KMD has provided the following information through their website valid from today 3rd September to 7th September.

According to the information, rainfall is expected over several parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley as well as over few areas in the Central Rift Valley, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Coast. The rest of the country is likely to be generally dry.

Warm conditions are expected over most parts of the country. However, occasional cloudiness is expected over some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, the Central and South Rift Valley and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.

Strong southerly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are expected over some parts of the Coast, the South-eastern Lowlands, Northwestern and North-eastern Kenya.

DETAILED REGIONAL FORECAST FOR THE PERIOD

The Regions within the Lake Victoria Basin and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Central and South Rift Valley are likely to experience morning rains over few places. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over several places and night showers expected over few places.

The Northwest Regions. Sunny intervals are likely to occur the entire period with partly cloudy nights.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley Regions. Morning are likely to be cloudy and later breaking into sunny intervals. Chances of showers over few places expected in the afternoon. Nights expected to be partly cloudy with chances of showers the last day of the forecast period.

Northest Regions. Days are expected to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. However a possibility of night showers occurring over few places in the course of the period.

The South Eastern Lowlands Regions. Sunny intervals are expected to prevail throughout the forecast period as nights remain partly cloudy.

The Coastal Region. First two mornings are expected to be sunny as chances of showers over few places are expected the rest of the mornings. Afternoon showers are expected during half of the period and sunny intervals during the other half. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy with a chance showers over few places on the forth night.
