Two wanted highway robbers were nabbed in Kainuk, Turkana County.
The arrests were made on May 25 in Smailele village, police said,
The duo were later identified as Simon Eraite Ekusi alias 'Damu Yake', 18 and Godman Ekalale alias 'Namso' aged 24 years.
The two are believed to be terrorizing members of the public along the Kitale-Lodwar highway and were linked with series of robberies with violence in Lokichar Township and Kaakipong Lagaa, police revealed.
During the arrest, an AK47 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition was seized from the duo.
The detectives explained that the two suspects descended on the officer with a machete inflicting several deep cuts on his head before fleeing into darkness with his Jericho pistol, that was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
The area has been experiencing cases of insecurity with motorists reporting attacks by gunmen.
