Prepare For Heavy Rains In The Next Five Days If You Live In The Specified Counties

The month of January is almost coming to an end and the Kenya Meteorological Department has been working hard in the provision of accessible meteorological and climatological information to the general public. The meteorological department has been providing timely warnings and updates regarding the expected weather changes over certain areas within a specified period of time.

The updates from the Kenya Meteorological Department have helped in the infusion of scientific knowledge to the general public hence enhancing the utilization of natural resources for national development.

The meteorological department has succeeded in doing this through the creation of an efficient telecommunications system for rapid collection and dissemination of meteorological information.

The Kenya Meteorological Department working in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has provided a five days weather forecasting updates whose validity ranges from 28th January to 1st February 2022.

According to the forecast, rainfall is expected to be experienced over several places within the forecast period. Occasional showers are expected in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the South Rift Valley, the South Eastern Lowlands and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Central and Southern Rift Valley;( Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot counties). The nights are likely to be cloudy with a chance of night showers over a few areas during the forecast period.

Afternoon showers accompanied with sunny intervals are expected over the South Eastern Lowlands throughout the forecast period,( Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties). The nights are likely to be partly cloudy with a chance of night showers over a few areas during the forecast period.

Cold and cloudy conditions with a chance of light rains are likely to be experienced in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley; ( Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi counties). Morning and evening showers are expected over a few areas during the forecast.

The areas not mentioned here are likely to be sunny and dry throughout the forecast period.

The updates from the Kenya Meteorological Department have helped in the saving of lives, protection of property and in the conservation of the natural environment.
