A suspect has been detained in connection with the murder of a bodyguard working for Raila Odinga's opponent, Ida Odinga.
On Monday, October 17, Collins Oulo Okundi was detained in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, some 122 kilometers from Kisumu the scene of the event.
Okundi, the manager of Signature Level 4 club, will be arraigned and charged with murder, according to Uasin Gishu Police boss Ayub Gitonga, who confirmed the arrest.
According to the police chief, he was taken into custody while in possession of a pistol, a magazine and seven rounds of ammunition.
Since Friday, October 14 at around 5:00 am, when he is said to have fatally shot corporal Barrack Oduor Onyango, Okundi has been on the run.
Onyango was at Marilyn Marion Ouma's home when the incident occurred at around 5 in the morning, according to Karanja Muiruri, the commander of the Nyanza Regional Police.
According to a police complaint, Okundi showed up at Ouma's home, and an altercation broke out between him, Onyango, and a third person they were with.
Ouma claims that during this altercation, Okundi disarmed the Ida's security and then shot him twice in the head and once in the thigh. He passed away instantly.
