Six people died and several others sustained injuries in a road accident involving a 14-seater matatu along Kisumu-Kapsabet road.
The accident happened after the matatu belonging to Eldoline Sacco lost control and rolled.
Witnesses said that the driver of the matatu was trying to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle when he lost control of the vehicle before it rolled several times off the road, killing the six on the spot.
Several others who were left nursing serious injuries were rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment. So far, the bodies of the deceased are lying at the scene.
The officers who attended the scene said they have launched investigations into the incident.
During this festive season, road users are urged to adhere to traffic laws to avoid more fatalities.Overspeeding and overtaking carelessly are the cause of major accidents. It is time traffic officers who man the highways took their job seriously.
