Kimilili Mp Didmus Barasa Denies Assaulting Stephen Masinde, released on 100k Cash Bail

The incident of lawmaker Didmus Barasa assaulting Stephen Masinde alias Steve Kay occurred on 30th of July 2021 at Lurare Primary school where Barasa was expected to open the five newly built classrooms within his constituency, Kamikuywa ward. The classrooms had been constructed using National Government Constituency Development Fund. Stephen Masinde and Ronald Wafula had won a tender to construct the classrooms and were expecting to be paid before commissioning of the classrooms, which was not the case. Things got out of hand when the lawmaker realised that Steve and his colleague Ronald Wafula had locked up the new classrooms demanding their pay of 3.4 Million in order to hand over the keys. The lawmaker allegedly slapped Steve for this.

Stephen reported the incident to Kimilili police station after the assault. According to a medical report from Kimilili hospital where Steve sought medical assistance, he had suffered multiple body injuries during the assault.

The Member of Parliament was arrested today, Monday morning at his home in Nasianda . However, he pleaded not guilty to causing bodily harm to the contractor as was caught on the camera over tender payment. The lawmaker rather gave an interesting side of the story that he only wanted to show his friend Stevevthat he did not zip up only for the contractor to think that he wanted to slap him.
