A day after being transferred to Mwea East Sub-County prison, some Inmates from the Kamiti Maximum Prison are said to have caused a dormitory fire around 12pm on Monday 17th.
According to a post published by Citizen digital, Police officers in Kirinyaga County have investigations underway on how the fire started. Chief officer John Kiama reiterated that though the firefighters were notified on time, they were forced to watch the dormitory burn to ground due to the entrance gate being to small to accommodate the truck.

While no information was given out by the prisoners, Kitavi revealed that the inmates used matchboxes to set the dormitory on fire with deaths or injuries being recorded during the incident.
