I Lived Like A Boy In The Streets For 6 Years And This Happened When My Friends Knew I Was A Girl

A woman from Naivasha has opened up of how she pretended to be a boy for six years and lived in the streets to survive. Mary Consolata was born in Naivasha Kenya but her life, that of her siblings and mother turned tragic after the death of her father. Her sister dropped out of school to work as a housemaid to help her mother who was pregnant at the time.

She also dropped out of school because of a difficult life in poverty. She then went to Nairobi after being told by a friend that life there was bearable and she could get something to keep her life going. Back then she was 10 years. She was however told that life in the city was not friendly to girls and that is when she came with an idea to transform herself into a boy.

She dressed, talked, walked and behaved like a boy. She even gave herself a new name to bond with the boys of the streets, Jimmy. She lived with the street boys for six years until when her body started to change. Her breasts started to enlarge and her periods started to appear. Unable to hide these changes she went back to the village. She however came back again but this time as a girl and the friends she used to live with could not believe she was a girl. They understand why she acted like a boy after she explained to them.

Things however changed during the night when the boys she had known for all those years turned on her and raped her. They were so many that she couldn't count them. They only stopped when a guard passed by. She again went to the village but pregnant and making matters worse she didn't know the father of the child since she had slept with many boys in the streets. Her life has been difficult as she now has two children all of whom she got from the streets. She is asking for well-wishers to come out and help her start a business.
