Thieves Break Into IEBC Warehouse, Steal Kiems Kits And Power Banks

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission's Nyeri warehouse was broken into, and 82 power banks and an unknown number of Kiems Kits were stolen; police are investigating.

The kits' carrying cases were wide open, and it was unknown how many were actually present. In preparation for the arrival of law enforcement, the scene was processed and secured prior to their arrival.

Because no one was physically harmed, investigators believe it to be an inside job. Kingongo was the site of the incident.

The commission's information technology officer in Nyeri notified the police, who opened a case. Thus yet, no one has been taken into custody. Election results have been challenged in court in the area.

Since last weekend's robbery, which authorities found out about after the fact, no items have been recovered, according to police reports.

As a standard practice, armed police officers are always present at IEBC storage facilities. Officials from the IEBC's Nairobi headquarters have confirmed that the accusation is being investigated but have otherwise declined to comment.
