Just in: A Storey Building Collapses in Kisumu

Two-storey building have collapsed while under construction in Mamboleo, Kisumu. Seven have been rushed to hospital with injuries, while an unknown number is feared trapped inside among them three women who used to serve them food.

Evacuation efforts are still ongoing.

Kisumu East subcounty police commander James Musyimi said the building caved in at 1 .30pm.

Moments after the building collapsed, residents pulled a mother and a child who were crying inside the building.

A few meters from where the building collapsed, several construction workers who escaped death by a whisker were still in shock.

They were working on one side of the building that was left with large cracks following the collapse.

The incident comes as surveyors have raised an alarm over substandards houses being constructed in the city.

This occurs barely a week after a five-storey residential building which was leaning in Kinoo was brought down in a controlled demolition.

Police have started investigations on the incident.

Who should be blamed for such incidences of buildings collapsing?? The Govt? The Engineers??
