Police in Kisii County are investigating circumstances in which one boy who had been reported missing for weeks was killed and his body dumped in Masaba river.
The body of the boy Tom Mogaka was discovered on Tuesday afternoon, days after distressed calls over hus disappearance.
The body of the boy, aged six and a half years was found floating on river Masaba West, Kisii County.
Acting OCPD John Bonuke confirmed the incident.
"The body was found by a fisherman who notified the police. The boy was last seen on March 12,2021 in Kisii town," said the officer.
Post-mortem examinations will take place to establish the cause of death.
Formal identification has yet to take place, however Tom relatives have been informed of the discovery.
Bonuke said, "This is a significant development in what has been a particularly challenging enquiry for everyone involved. Tom's family have been informed of this development and we will continue to support them at this difficult time as our investigation continues". He added.
"The thoughts of everyone involved in this and investigation are with the family at this time.
"I would like to thank the local community for their co-operation with what is a large and complex police operation involving many specialist resources from across here," the police boss said.
The body of the child was moved to Kisii Level five Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem and preservation.
"There will continue to be a significant police presence in the area for some time and I would ask anyone with information about anyone who might have killed the minor and thrown him to the river to please come forward and speak to us." The police boss noted.
