Several Families Have Stayed Awake in the Cold After Strong Winds Destroyed Their Homes

More than 100 residents in the Bugta area of Voi, Taita Taveta county have been forced to sleep outside in the cold after their houses were blown away by strong winds yesterday. The residents are appealing to the county government and non-governmental organizations to help them with food as they are now going through a difficult time.

Residents say they have nowhere to go as the young children are most affected by the cyclone. According to Pastor Rose, many families have been left homeless and, in anticipation of the severe losses, have ended up looking for alternative shelter as the approaching rainy season worries them especially due to school-age children.

For his part, Abrahan Chuma who is the MCA of Kasiguo ward says that there is a need for the County government and the National government to put in place effective strategies to help the residents.
