Japhet Koome Hosts Former CJ David Maraga As Details Are Revealed Over Their Meet up

Former Chief Justice David Maraga was hosted by Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome on Monday at his Nairobi office.

President William Ruto recently named the former CJ to head the National Task-force on Improvement of the Terms and Conditions of Service and Other Reforms for Members of the National Police Service and Prison Service.

The two leaders came to an understanding about the support and cooperation that should be provided by both parties to make it easier to get opinions from the police officers on the ground in order to improve their welfare.

Carole Kariuki, the task force's deputy, accompanied Maraga. Additionally present were Deputy Inspector General Edward Mbugua of the Kenya Police Service and Deputy Inspector General Noor Gabow of the Administration Police Service.

Others include Abdallah Komesha, the Principal Assistant to the IG, and Mohamed Amin, the Director of Criminal Investigations.

President Ruto stated that there is a need to enhance the working conditions for police personnel and that the government is trying to make sure they have the resources to carry out their duties in a gazette notification dated December 21.

He gave the Maraga-led task group instructions to review and suggest changes to the terms and conditions of employment, identify and suggest legal policy institutional and operational reforms in NPS and KPS, and suggest changes to police welfare in all police cadres.

The Head of State declared at the time that "the imperative of boosting the security sector remains a national priority and the key method of overcoming the rising and dynamic security problems we confront."
