The late Ouko died a premature death in 1990 without accomplishing his political ambitions. His lifeless body was found at the foot of Got Alila next to his rural home in Koru Kisumu county.
Even though Ouko is not around, his family has worked around the clock to keep his candle burning by coming up with various projects at his backyard .
The first notable intiative,is a community library constructed at his farmland, this library whose main is to help the locals acquire knowledge, was constructed by the family with the help of local and foreign well wishes in remembrance of Ouko's love for books.
The Library called Doctor Robert Ouko memorial library, has really impacted the lives of the locals positively.I had a chance to visit the place during this short half period and was impressed by the number of young learners who were their acquiring knowledge.
Another noble project is Dr Robert Ouko memorial primary school, which is just adjacent to the library, this is a project that Mama Christabel Ouko come up with after noting that the primary school going kids were traveling for a longer distance to access education.
It started with a construction of classrooms made of mud,and today a storey modern classrooms have been erected at the site and is currently hosting thousands of pupils.
Since it opened its doors, the school has presented KCPE candidates thrice, and in all those years it has produced good results.
The two institution has helped in remembering Dr Robert Ouko and we thank the family for the same.
