Assistant chief's house set ablaze by unknown assailants, Kisii County.
Police in Kisii are probing a Saturday morning report where unknown assailants set ablaze a house belonging to an Assistant Chief in Bonyando Sub location.
The 10 am report was filed at the Gesonso Police Station where the assailants allegedly set the house on fire.
By press time, the Assistant Chief, identified as Duke Mokua travelled to Mombasa with his family for the Christmas holidays.
County Police Commander confirmed the incident and said the attacks were not connected to family wrangles.
A television screen, seats and bedding were reduced down to ashes during the inferno.
Police were deployed in the villages to quell tensions following the fires.
The items were approximated to be worth Sh50,000.
A police statement on the matter however showed that the house remained open.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances under which the house was torched.
