Thika Road traffic police commander Justus Oracha who confirmed the incident said the victim was hit at 13.07hrs as he was crossing the busy highway.
He added that traffic officers were dispatched thirty minutes after the accident to take control of the miling crowd who wanted to stage protests.
The traffic police commander Justus Oracha said the deceased was crossing the road to sell two masks to a Subaru driver when he was hit with the oncoming truck.
The truck driver has since been arrested and he is currently undergoing interrogations at Muthaiga police station.
His truck was still parked by the roadside awaiting to be towed to Muthaiga police station for inspection.
His body was moved to Nairobi City refferal hospital morgue pending autopsy and further police investigations.
