Police Officer Deployed to Guard Tumaini Primary School Breathes His Last While Receiving Treatment

Since the government decided to launch an operation in a bid to weed out bandits in Laikipia region, things have taken a turn for the worse in recent days.

From being assaulted by bandits to having sleepless nights, residents must be having a hard time running their errands and moving around.

One of the police officer reservists who were assaulted by bandits armed with sophisticated weapons on Friday took his last breath on Saturday while receiving treatment.

Mr Thomas, Nyahururu Sub County Hospital Administrator, in an interview with Nation, said that Mr Robert Lopem succumbed to gunshot wounds while his colleague, Mr. Charles Lokori, who sustained serious injuries is currently responding well to treatment.

The officers were deployed to man Tumaini Primary School which is said to suited two kilometers away from Ol Moran Township when the bandits stormed the school and opened fire on Friday afternoon.

Mr Lokori, while recounting what transpired, noted that they were attacked after the bandits came out from a maize plantation and started shooting at them. He went on to fault the government for failing to heed to their requests.

Government had promised to beef security but this is not the case as claimed by the officer.
