Jackton Odhiambo, the main suspect in the murder of LGBTQ activist and fashion model Edwin Chiloba, was known to his neighbours in Eldoret as a good-mannered young man with a lot of respect.
According to neighbours who have known him since childhood, he has always been a reserved and respectful man. It did not cross their mind that he was gay.
The residents of Huruma Estate where he was brought up said his father is a religious leader and the chairman of Nyumba Kumi. They were shocked when Odhiambo was linked to the murder of his alleged male lover Edwin Chiloba.
"We have known Odhiambo to be a reserved and respectful man. His being linked to the murder of the University of Eldoret student has shocked everybody,'' one of the neighbours said.
They revealed that detectives visited Odhiambo's parent's home to try and piece together evidence that could help in the murder case. The residents urged detectives to move with speed and arrest all the culprits involved in Chiloba's macabre murder.
They said as parents, they can't defend their kids when they are involved in criminal activities. The late Chiloba was murdered and his body stashed in a metal box before being duped along the Kipenyo-Kaptinga road in Uasin Gishu.
5 suspects have been linked to the murder. Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo granted the police 21 days to hold the suspects to facilitate the completion of investigations.
