More than 40 passengers on Monday April 02 narrowly escaped death after the bus they were traveling in bursts into flames in the Buoye area on the Ahero-kisumu road. The bus was on its way to Nairobi when the tragedy struck, at about 5.45 am. Passengers were evacuated safely and stood along the road in shock.
Preliminary information indicates that the rear tire of the bus exploded. The cause of the fire is yet to be established. The bus KCW 073W left Nairobi at 8am the previous day and got to Bungoma at 6.30pm The driver then received a call from the manager that he would still be the one ferrying passengers to Nairobi at 7.30,the night before the accident.
Kisumu County commander Alphonce Kimathi said that the bus was carrying 45 passengers and no casualties were reported. "There are no injuries and officers are on the ground," kimathi told a local media house. Police officers and firefighters were at the scene to contain the situation and at 8am the firefighters were still fighting the fire.
