Over the last two weeks, several accidents have been reported across the nation with dozens losing their lives in a tragic way. This was the same case with one family from Mombasa who perished on a grisly road accident on their way upcountry to celebrate Christmas. The family of Ronald Bundi was travelling from Mombasa to Kisii county for Christmas celebrations when the accident occurred at Mackinon area near Voi.
Yesterday, a somber mood engulfed St Francis of Assisi Customs Parish in Nyali, Mombasa, when relatives and friends held a memorial service for five family members who perished in a road accident on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway on Christmas day. Ronald Bundi Mauncho, his wife Veronica Ogake Bundi, children Marion Moraa Bundi, Natalia Kemunto Bundi, and Claire Kwamboka Bundi, were all paraded in the church for mass prayers. In a sorrowful mood, the two sons who survived the accident couldn't hold back their tears by cry seeing their beloved being given a goodbye forever.
The two boys, Mike 10 and Venard 3, were brought to the mass ceremony on wheelchairs so as they can have a last view of their father's body, mother's body and their three sisters before they were taken back to the hospital to continue receiving treatment. Others who payed tribute to the family include Star of the Sea Secondary School one of the daughter Marion was studying.
“Marion Moraa was my student. I was close to the girl because she was an exceptional performer. She was hardworking and very obedient. Our school is mourning her demise,” said Judith Kwamboka, Moraa’s English teacher.
The bodies of the five will be airlifted to Kisumu and driven to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary today ahead of the burial at Nyakegogi village in Sameta, Bobasi constituency, tomorrow. The family has prepared a mass grave for the family.
