According to the reports given by Matiangi, he claimed that the attack happened due to the fact that the suspects might have been upset after some of their colleagues were Sentenced.

"From now on we are going to make sure we move all the impending court cases to Nairobi from Lamu. We have found out that the attack might have happened due to the fact that there are some Alshabaab Suspects who are still in jail and are yet to be Sentenced and for this reason, we think that this is one of the main reasons why they conducted this attack. All in the same, we are going to make sure they pay for this because just like i said before, we are not leaving Lamu anytime soon until peace is restored", he said.

While reacting to this incident, kenyans who took to social media accounts to express their opinions and suggestions called upon Uhuru Kenyatta ro send KDFs.
