Fire Razes Down Gikomba Market Again

On Wednesday early morning October 20, property of unknown value has been burnt down after fire razed down a section of Gikomba Market

The fire, whose cause has not been established, started at the Southern part of the open-air market opposite the Jua Kali section and adjacent to Muthurwa Primary School located in Pumwani.

Due to the fire, several sheds were reduced to ashes. Some traders and other on-lookers who were on the ground, attempted to salvage some of the property from the ravaging inferno.

Yusuf Hassan, the Kamukunji Member of Parliament, stated that several firefighters arrived at the scene to put off the fire.

"Saddened that the section of the market has been gutted by yet another fire and traders are to face incalculable losses," Yusuf wrote.

" A fierce fire is raging in the southern part of the Gikomba Market opposite Jua Kali and adjacent to Muthurwa Primary School in Pumwani. Fire fighters from various government units including the KDF are on the ground battling to bring the blaze under control," he added.

However, the incidences of fire have been on the rise in recent times.

In less than two months, the market has been razed down by mysterious fire again destroying properties.

Last August, another fire was witnessed in the market. It broke out at night at the Molo Line area popularly known as Ghorofani and raged till dawn.
