There are several cases of Robbery without violence especially to the MPESA users both private and commercial agents. People have lost their businesses as well as fortunes to these robbers. It is just a day after they robbed an Mpesa agent money totalling to sh 60,000.
The latest tricks these people are using are leaving even the police wondering how they may approach the whole issue. They tend to be quit calculative and this calls for greater vigilance from the agents side. For the case of Naivasha, the thieve pretended to be friends to the agent by portraying himself as a regular customer.
They ended up winning the trust of the agent and one day he asked the agent to assist him with a personal phone to call someone. He went through the phone book very last and after he found the name of 'my boss' he knew this is the employee of this person and he deleted the contact and instead saved his number with the same name as my boss.
Later he texted the agent impersonating the boss where he asked him to deposit to three different numbers the whole 60k. When he was doing the last deposit the real boss appeared and stopped him. This makes it hard for these people to be traced since but the police are after them. MPESA agents in particular need to be much more careful especially trusting strangers whom they do no know.
