Two suspects in custody after they allegedly defrauded a couple Sh716,000 in a swim swap scam

During the weekend, two suspects that is; Egerton university student and a 19 year old man were arrested in Nakuru, Njoro sub-county after they allegedly defrauded a couple 716, 000 in a swim swap scam.

The DCI said that the two commited the offence in June this year where a woman received a call from an unknown safaricom number and was made to believe that she was talking to a safaricom customer care service.

The woman was then convinced to reveal her personal information which the fraudsters used to rob her Sh296, 652 from her mpesa and cooperative Bank accounts.

She further gave them details of her husband accounts and they went on to withdrew Sh420, 570.

Police and the DCI officers at safaricom headquarters led the detectives to the two suspects from where the mobile phones used for the fraud was recovered.

"Many kenyans have been defrauded by the multi-faced gang posing as safaricom staff. Everyone should be careful and avoid giving out line's personal information to an unknown people via a phone call." The detectives said.

The two will be arraigned in court to face various charges.
