Why Popular Blogger Derrick Mbugua Has Allegedly Been in Police Custody For Two Months

Popular blogger and former Kahawa Wendani MCA aspirant Derrick Mbugua has been in police custody at Industrial area remand for two months.

According to a report by Africa Motorcycle Diaries, Derrick who is a rider was arrested on 25th September 2021 after recording a police officer unjustly harassing motorbike riders in Kahawa.

The police officer whom he was recording reportedly framed him on the apex of robbery with violence.

In the document shared online, Derrick was accused of stealing 750 Kenyan shillings from Paul Ngare after beating him up.

"On the 25th of September 2021 at around 2100 hours at Kahawa Wendani in Ruiru Subcounty within Kiambu county, jointly with others and not before court, robbed one Peter Ngare cash money amounting to Kshs 750 and immediately before the robbery, used actual violence against the said Peter Ngare" Read part of the document shared online.

Derrick has since been unable to raise 300,000 Kenyan shillings cash bail to secure his freedom.
