In 2021, an Indian man who was ranked among the most polygamous died. Ziona Chana is said to have left behind 39 life partners, 94 children and 33 grandchildren on the face of earth. During his youth, he had other life partners but those who he officially married are 39. Sources say that this number is more than 39 while other sources say the actual number of life partners Chana had was 89.
During his life, Chana affirmed that he the world's greatest family. But this was difficult to prove because other polygamous men such as the Canadian by the name Winston Blackmore is believed to have had more 100 adolescents by his wives.
According to aljazeera, Chana married his first wife when he was 17 years old. This was the year 1959. In that same year, he married other 9 spouses. This means that in a single year he married a total of 10 wives. He maintained to marry 10 spouses every year, his last spouse was 25 years old who he married in 2004.
Chana's family lived in a home with all his family members. The home was called the New generation home. Despite the Indian law refusing such kind of large families, Chana was permitted to have such large family by getting a license from the authorities.
Chana was one man who was proud of his family. He told Reuters that he could have continued to marry and have more children who will be under his care. But it was unfortunate because he passed on at the age of 76. That brought to an end his dream of marrying many wives and bring up many children. His cause of death was as a result of diabetes and highpertension.
Is it practical to have such a big family today? Are big families out of date? Did the big families end with our grand parents?
