A 5-Storey Building collapses in Kinoo Area, Kiambu County.

The 5 Storey Building under construction was curved in, leaning towards another building in Kinoo. No deaths or injuries have been reported so far in the incident that took place in the wake up to Sunday morning. Tenants of the residential apartment have been safely evacuated.

The images I witnessed on the ground show incomplete structure leaning precariously on one side of the apartment. According to tenants in the adjacent buildings, the incident is said to have occurred an Saturday 5,at about 11.30pm. At the time the building disintegrated, nobody was inside that building.

Police officers were sent to the scene to tame the situation and take over the evaluation process so as to assuage any lurking danger. The information board on the site indicated that the collapsed building was approved by the National Construction Authority(NCA).

The incident comes barely months after a six storey building partially collapsed in Kinoo on September 3, forcing it to lean on one end. Construction workers told the press that they had warned the owner of the stability of the building after it developed some cracks.

This incident has sparked off a buzz online on the surging number of buildings in Kiambu curving in. Some opined that the contractors are to be blamed, others blamed it on an equivocal approval process.
