Kenya has apologised to Uganda through Lokiriama sub-county Commissioner Yakub Tirop. According to the Ugandan online publication, The Observer, the apology comes after allegedly cattle rustlers from Kenya crossed into Uganda and murdered two geologists and their two Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) guards.
According to the paper, Tirop pleaded to the Ugandan delegation to pardon Turkana herders and allow them to return to Karamoja to graze their cattle while turning over two rifles that the rustlers seized from the slain officers.
"If it was not for Uganda, all Turkana cows would have died and that's why we're pleading with Uganda to please allow the Turkana to return and graze their livestock in Karamoja," he said.
However, Brigadier Balikudembe, the leader of the Ugandan delegation, denied the request unless Kenya turned over the alleged killers for prosecution.
Tirop informed the Ugandan officials in his response that they would seek the suspects and send them over to Uganda for prosecution.
