The National Assembly of Kenya tabled a new Report on Wednesday 22nd Sept, 2021 on the Scandal linked to 7.8 Billion Covid Funds. Several recommendations were put down to be implemented.
Here is a small summary of their discussion:
i) Prosecution of Kembi Gitura
The Parliamentary committee came to a conclusion that the main culprit of the scandal is the former Senate Deputy Speaker Mr Gitura. Gitura was the Chairman of Kemsa Board and him together with the entire board members are answerable to the inflated fund loss.
The tender that was given to Wallabis Ventures ltd was not procedurally in order and also the multimillion tender to Villa Surgical Supplies and Equipment ltd. The EACC is tasked to do thorough investigation on the matter. Joe Onsare was also mentioned as among those who influence the deal.
ii) Face Masks Supplies
According to the report, the inflated prices of masks that were procured should be dealt with within one month. Among those who were involved are Jonah Manjari( CEO), Waiganjo Karanja( Finance and Strategy Director), Ferdinand Wanyonyi( Legal department head) and Charles Juma who was the head of Procurment.
